El-Zakzaky has Iran’s support to turn Nigeria to Islamic State - FG

The Federal Government has alleged that the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, has the sole aim of establishing an Islamic State in Nigeria.   The government also said the cleric had the full support of the Iranian government to achieve this aim. The government made these claims in a counter-affidavit it filed against IMN’s motion challenging the Federal High Court’s order of July 26 proscribing the group.   Justice Nkeonye Maha of the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court who issued the proscription order, on Wednesday, fixed September 11 for the hearing of the motion filed on behalf of the IMN by Mr. Femi Falana (SAN).

EFCC traces N223m to bank account of Ekiti internet fraud kingpin

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission says it has traced N223million in illicit transactions in the bank account of arrested Ekiti-based internet fraudster, Ajayi Gbenga Festus. Friday Ebelo who is the head of the Ibadan Zonal Head of the anti-graft agency, made this known during a press conference at its Iyaganku, Ibadan zonal office today Wednesday August 28th. According to Ebelo, Festus ran a syndicate with other cybercriminals abroad to illegally gain access into the accounts of individuals and organisations to defraud them of their money. He said illicit transactions made through Festus’ Nigerian bank accounts amounted to N223million, noting that the suspect serves as a conduit pipe through which proceeds of crime reach members of the syndicate. A 75-year-old HIV positive man identified as Chief Shedrack Ejinwa, has allegedly been freed by the police following the payment of N370K settlement after his arrest for raping a 14-year-old girl.  The teenager who was placed under medication at Kendox Medical Services in Port Harcourt,  Rivers State was allegedly told by wife of the owner of the medical facility not to tell anyone what transpired between them. However after activist Harrison Gwamnishu got the HIV positive rapist and the wife of the hospital's medical director arrested upon being briefed about the rape act by a Facebook user, they were allegedly freed by the police following a N370K settlement proposal by the family of the rapist. The 14-year-old girl reportedly said she was forced to give in to settlement.  Read the tweets below; 

29-year old man sentenced to two years in jail with hard labour without an option of fine for robbing Lekki residents

Innocent Nwibe, a 29-year-old man has been sentenced to two years imprisonment with hard labour for scaling the fence of three residents of Lekki Phase 1, Lekki, Lagos at midnight to rob them of properties valued about N500,000 before he was caught by vigilant security men on duty.   The convict from Ogoja, Cross River State, Southern Nigerian was sentenced by Magistrate A.M Davies at the Igbosere Magistrates’ Court after the convict pleaded guilty to the six count charges of robbery preferred against him by the police at the Maroko Division, Lekki, Lagos and the facts of the case presented before the court by the police counsel, Reuben Solomon.   Solomon had told the court in charge No. H/38/2019 that the convict, on 14 July, 2019, scaled the fence of the three complainants, Adamu Dauda, Abdul Mojeed Jimoh and Fela Ola at their Plot 4, Engineer George Enamoh Street, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos and robbed them of Galaxy, Infinix, Huawei, Gionee, Viva Phones and Shoes valued about N

Facebook tightens rules for political adverts ahead of US elections

Facebook has announced that it would tighten its rules for political ad spending ahead of the 2020 US elections, notably by requiring more information about who is paying for campaign messages.   The move is the latest by Facebook to crack down on efforts to deceive or manipulate users after the social network admitted lapses in the 2016 election. While Facebook has already begun requiring political advertisers to provide identification to confirm who they are and where they are located, the new policy requires more information to show they are registered with the US government.     This new verification can be done by submitting a tax identification number or proof that the group is registered with the Federal Election Commission. “People should know who is trying to influence their vote and advertisers shouldn’t be able to cover up who is paying for ads,” a Facebook blog post said. She revealed that her sister, Britt from Williamsburg, Virginia, was physically abused by a man named Maine and it left her with severe injuries that required multiple stitches. The sister, Tiah Lynch has now revealed that there's an outstanding warrant for the arrest of her sister's abuser.
