Get a Nigerian passport within one week without paying a bribe

Image
August 2017, I was the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR), with the daunting task of reforming Nigeria’s Federal Public Service. As part of that role, I sought to move the focus of Public Service Reforms away from the Public Service unto the public. This was a deliberate tactical approach that sought to change the approach to public service reforms from inputs to outcomes. Problems with the Public Service are often complex and intractable. There are various reasons why Public Service Reforms are difficult in most environments and are particularly difficult in developing countries, such as Nigeria. In countries such as ours, the public service reformer is often dealing with myriad systemic input problems in the organisation he is trying to reform, including lack of electricity, insufficient financial provision, lack of working tools, poor internet access, poor staff motivation and systematic corruption. The combination of these, and any one of them...

Former President Obasanjo’s letter to President Buhari

Image
I am constrained to write to you this open letter. I decided to make it an open letter because the issue is very weighty and must be greatly worrisome to all concerned Nigerians and that means all right-thinking Nigerians and those resident in Nigeria. Since the issue is of momentous concern to all well-meaning and all right-thinking Nigerians, it must be of great concern to you, and collective thinking and dialoguing is the best way of finding an appropriate and adequate solution to the problem. The contents of this letter, therefore, should be available to all those who can help in proffering effective solutions for the problem of insecurity in the land. One of the spinoffs and accelerants is the misinformation and disinformation through the use of fake news. A number of articles, in recent days, have been attributed to me by some people who I believe may be seeking added credence and an attentive audience for their opinions and view-points. As you know very well, I will al...

few successful people have stabbed me in the back - Mo Abudu

Image
Mo Abudu shared a motivational post on her Instagram page on how to stay focused when irrelevant people stab you in the back as you journey to your success in life.  In her post, the successful media mogul revealed how some irrelevant persons and some perceived successful people have stabbed her in the back as she made her mark in the media and entertainment industry. Read her post below A good friend of mine shared this African proverb with me yesterday and it made so much sense. “it’s not every dog that barks in the market that you answer”. Just to say that as we are on this journey called life, and as we build, as we start to see and experience some level of success, all sorts of people will come after you. They will even say all sorts, do all sorts, but don’t get distracted. Some of them will even try and use your relevance to make their “irrelevant” lives relevant. It’s all a distraction. What is key is that you continue to stay focused on your end goa...

THIS IS THE TEACHER WHO DARES TO SPEAK WITH BOKO HARAM

Image
Few people talk openly about  Boko Haram  in northern Nigeria. Even fewer talk  to  them. But in her motherly way, the simple-looking Hamsatu Allamin is fearless and unapologetic. “I talk with Boko Haram even today, and they are open to [a] peace deal,” says Allamin, 60, sitting cross-legged on the floor of a yellowed bungalow, her veil circling her face and spilling down to the gray-green rug. This educator-turned-mediator looks anything but imposing. But she cracks hard ground digging for peace in a nine-year civil war that has killed 20,000 people.   So how can a woman speak to a sect that keeps women silent and slaughters them for not wearing veils? In this war-ravaged part of the country, the answers are retold with a personal bent and remixed city to city. “If that woman is not a member of Boko Haram, they would have finished her,” a friend in the northern city of Maiduguri, Ahmed Abubakar, tells me. “But if she is not one of them, then she must be ...

Northern Elders’ Forum orders Fulani herdsmen to vacate Southern Nigeria

Image
The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has asked all Fulani herdsmen residing in the Southern part of the country to vacate immediately if their security is no longer guaranteed. Activities of Herdsmen have come under serious scrutiny after the recent killing of Mrs Funke Olakunrin, daughter of Afenifere leader and a 40 year old farmer in Ogun state. Chairman of Northern Elders Forum, NEF, Prof. Ango Abdullahi, who addressed newsmen at a press conference in Abuja earlier today, said the order for the return of the herdsmen  was borne out of the realization that the lives of Fulani herdsmen residing in Southern Nigeria have been put at risk due to the actions and utterances of Southern Governors in recent days. In his words “We are worried about their well-being. If it is true that their safety can no longer be, we rather have them back in areas where their safety is guaranteed.  The bottom line is that their safety is far more important than their stay...
