'No certificate listed on President Buhari's CV' - Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari tells election petitions tribunal

Today, President Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, admitted before the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal in Abuja that no certificate was listed on the President’s curriculum vitae and that none was among the documents obtained from Cambridge University earlier tendered as exhibits. Kyari, who testified as the President’s third defence witness, also admitted obtaining the Cambridge documents personally on July 18, 2019. The Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, had filed the petition before the tribunal to challenge the victory of President Buhari and his All Progressives Congress in the February 23, 2019 poll.   Part of the grounds of the petition was that Buhari did not possess the academic qualification necessary to contest the poll. Femi Fani Kayode describes the ministerial screening as 'a pitiful joke'

Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has called out the Nigerian Senate for the process adopted at the just concluded ministerial screening.   He faulted the screening of some ministerial nominees by simply asking them to “take a bow and go” calling it “a display of comic relief.”   In a series of tweets, Fani-Kayode disclosed how he was screened for no less than two hours and thirty minutes by the Senate in 2006 when he was nominated by former President Obasanjo. He wrote; 'when I was nominated to be a Minister by OBJ 13 years ago in 2006 I was screened by the Senate for no less than two hours and thirty gruelling and very difficult minutes on live television. There is no question that they did not ask me and there is none that I did not answer. Senate President Ahmed Lawan names chairpersons for 69 Senate committees

Senate President Dr Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan on Tuesday announced the chairpersons for the Senate Standing Committees. The announcement of the 69 senate committees came after the lawmakers confirmed the 43 ministerial nominees and also unanimously voted to embark on an annual recess. The committees transcended party affliation and also had Senators of the opposition political parties heading strategic Committees. Some of the committees are Appropriation which is chaired by Barau Jibrin; Finance, Adeola Olamilekan; Police, Dauda Jika; Defence, Aliyu Magatakarda; Army, Ali Ndume; NDDC, Peter Nwabaoshi; Agriculture, Abdullahi Adamu and INEC, Kabiru Gaya.

Lagos State to close Jibowu Rail Crossing road for 30-days due to gas-pipe relocation works

The Lagos State Government has announced that a section of the Jibowu Crossing will be closed for thirty days from Wednesday, July 31 to Thursday, August 29, 2019, for the relocation of gas pipes situated close to the perimeter of the rail line.     According to a statement issued today by the State Ministry of Transportation, the closure and relocation work on the gas pipeline would affect the free flow of traffic around the corridor.     Consequently, motorists are advised to avoid this area but road users who cannot completely ignore the corridor are advised to obey traffic officers and other law enforcement personnel assigned to manage traffic during the period of relocation of the gas pipeline.

Leah Sharibu allegedly killed - Aid worker abducted by Boko Haram says in plea video (watch video)

Many feared dead as Shiites and police engage in fierce gun battle in Abuja (photos)

Protest staged by members of the Shiites movement turned bloddy this afternoon July 22nd after some members of the movement engaged the police in a fierce gun battle at the Central Business District in Abuja, the nation's capital. The police had asked the Islamic group members not to stage any protest out the designated area for protest in Abuja which is the Unity Fountain. However the Shiites who are demanding the release of their leader, Ibrahim ElZakzaky, dared the police and took their protest to the Central Business district. Efforts by the police to stop them from staging the protest turned bloody within minutes as gun shots were fired by the Shiites and the police. 'We will continue protest in Abuja despite police order' - Shi’ites

42 year old mother of four shot dead by armed robbers after police allegedly seized her car from her during stop and search in Delta state

A 42 year old mother of four, Grace Ogochukwu Dagbo, was killed by suspected armed robbers in Ovwian, Delta state on Saturday July 20th.  A niece of the deceased, Dr Ify Nwajei, yesterday shared the sad story on Twitter, alleging that the victim was killed by trigger-happy police officers, an account of the event that has been disputed. Activist Harrison Gwamnishu who paid a visit to the Family house in Delta state yesterday July 21st, said the deceased was not killed by police officers but rather by suspected armed robbers. According to Gwamnishu, the deceased and her 9 year old daughter were driving home at about 9pm when they were flagged down by police officers carrying out a stop and search exercise. The police says it is not aware of any petition Busola Dakolo, wife of Timi Dakolo, filed in any of its command's against COZA pastor, Biodun Fatoyinbo. Recall that on Saturday, Timi raised an alarm on social media after he spotted gun wielding men inside a bus in front of his house. It was later discovered that the men were a team of police officers from Abuja who had come to deliver a letter to him and his wife to come forward for questionning as there is a case of criminal conspiracy, falsehood and threat to life filed against them.  Timi at a press conference he held in Lagos yesterday,  said Busola on June 27th, filed a petition against Fatoyinbo within the Lagos state police command, a day before her explosive interview was released. A Nigerian teenager shot dead in South Africa

The Nigerian Community in South Africa has once again been thrown into mourning following the gruesome murder of a 17-year-old Nigerian boy identified as Denni Chinonso Obiaju, in Johannesburg on Saturday July 20th. Obiaju who lived with his guardian, Mr Mike Nsofor, in Rooderpt, Johannesburg, was said to have gone to a shop to buy an item with a friend when they were both chased by a yet-to-be identified person who opened fire on them. Obiaju died instantly. The President of Nigerian Union in South Africa, Adetola Olubajo, who confirmed the incident, said the family of the deceased have agreed to bury him in South Africa since he was born there. Olubajo called on the Federal Government to urgently protect Nigerians in the Diaspora. This unfortunate incident comes few weeks after a Nigerian Insurance expert, Mrs Obianuju Ndubuisi-Chukwu, was killed by yet to be identified persons in her hotel room in South Africa.

If Bayelsa has three senators as Kano, then the context of one Nigeria is fair – Buhari

He backed his claim with proposition of the constitution, which held that each state must have a minister representing it in the cabinet.
